Seed Stone Shape and the Relative Components in the Kernel of Ginkgo biloba

  • The female plants of Ginkgo biloba, based on the shape of seed stones, were divided into five variety types, i. e. Changzi, Fozhi, Maling, Meihe and Yuanzi. After analysis of variance, correlation and regression, it was indicated that a significant or most significant difference existed in the ratio of length to width, or length to thickness, or width to thickness of seed stones among five variety types. The hydrocyanic acid content in the kernel (y) was correlative with the ratio of width to thickness of seed stones (x) (r=0.500 0**), which could be expressed as the regressive equation of ŷ=3.245 8 + 1.300 2 x. There were insignificant differences for the single stone weight and the content of dry matter, linear chain starch, amylopectin, starch, rough protein, soluble sugar and hydrocyanic acid in the kernel, which had the close relations to the stone quality. Those research results have an important value to the classification research and the single selection for the Ginkgo's female plants.
