An Approach to Modeling the Changing Structure of A Forest Stand

The definite problem of a first order partial differential equation is proposed to analyze the changes in structure of a forest stand.As the solution of the definite problem,an analytical expression is obtained,which describes the changing structure in terms of diameter growth and mortality of the individual trees.For the purpose of testing it,the model was used to simulate and predict the diameter distributions of a jack pine stand.Both simulated and predicted distributions agree with the sample data of the stand.
